ABOUT

David Lane has studied with well known Berkshire landscape painter John MacDonald and internationally known color-theorist Dan Thompson at The Grand Central Academy of Art in New York City. In July of 2006, David started his blog, Porchlight Paintings to connect with like minded artists and collectors from around the world. Since then, his small scale paintings have allowed him to practice classical technique and develop a naturalistic style that has become a signature element of his paintings.

David Lane almost always works directly from life, and is concerned with creating work with atmosphere that evokes a mood, depicts a visual impression, or captures a fleeting moment in. David teaches regularly at Northern Berkshire Creative Arts, the Clark Art Institute, and this summer is offering weeklong workshops in Plein Air Painting, Mask Making, and Drawing in his studio in the Eclipse Mill. His art has been featured in Berkshire Living Magazine and the North Adams Transcript and he recently created 2 giant koi puppets for the Clark Art Institute which can be seen on the cover of their summer calendar guide. David holds a BFA from the University of Calgary and an MFA in theatre from Sarah Lawrence College and when he’s not painting, David can be found teaching acting and directing at the University at Albany.
